OSI to deliver TDNS for submarine upgrade programme
OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) is providing its Tactical Dived Navigation System (TDNS) submarine navigation solution to an undisclosed submarine upgrade programme, the company announced on 26 October.
The contract, facilitated through the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) for a government-to-government agreement to support an allied navy, is for a system based on OSI’s upgrade design applied to existing navigation capability in legacy submarines.
In a statement, OSI said that part of the design included a Digital Maritime Operations Plot (D-MOP) with the ECPINS Submarine software, to deliver 'tactical navigation advantage'.
'In a submarine, where operating space is confined, the D-MOP’s hardware and a flexible system architecture is custom fitted to maximise and efficiently deliver navigational and tactical advantage to the crew,' the company statement said.
ECPINS Submarine exploits technology by offering features that increase the submarine’s performance by being able to operate with or without the aid of sensors, which the company described as 'a superior tactical as well as self-defence capability'.
