The P-8A maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft (MPRA) has become a ‘poster boy’ in the Indo-Pacific region. Gradually supplanting the P-3C Orion as a workhorse of US maritime domain awareness (MDA) efforts, the Poseidon has made its presence felt in some of the region’s geopolitical flashpoints – not least the South China Sea – and has also become a bestseller.
