OCEA unveils new offshore support vessel design
French shipbuilder OCEA has developed a new multi-purpose, modular offshore support vessel designed to cater for the growing role of UAVs in EEZ protection and other maritime operations.
The OSV 250 design is based on experience gained by OCEA in developing the smaller OSV 190, with 50% more endurance and doubling the range to 10,000nm at 10kt speed.
OCV 250 includes a helicopter platform plus UAV launch and recovery system in a modular hangar. The vessel is designed to fulfil a broad range of missions, from hygrographic and oceanic surveys to MCM and SAR.
The OCV is 75.2m long with a draft of 3.7m and a top speed of 18kt. It can carry a crew of 40-50 personnel depending on the mission.
OCEA is scheduled to deliver more than 40 boats and ships by the end of 2021, including FPB 98 Mk1 fast patrol boats to Ukraine (20 vessels) and two FPB 98 Mk1s plus one OSV 95 oceanographic research vessel to the French Navy.
The Nigerian Navy will receive four 17m C-Falcon interceptor craft, to join eight others delivered under a previous contract.
