New Spanish ASW frigates to include Rohde & Schwarz comms
Rohde & Schwarz announced on 19 October that it has signed a contract with Spanish shipbuilder Navantia to equip five new Bonifaz-class F-110 frigates with external communications systems.
The five ASW vessels are being built for the Spanish Navy to replace the Santa Maria class.
Rohde & Schwarz (Spain) will design and supply R&S M3SR software defined radios for LoS and BLoS communications: specifically the R&S Series4100 HF and R&S Series4400 VHF/UHF.
The company will also provide engineering services and integrated logistics support.
Citing Spanish Navy procurement plans, Shephard Defence Insight expects the first Bonifaz-class ASW frigate to be commissioned by the mid-2020s, with all five expected to have entered service by the beginning of the next decade.
