New OPVs, corvettes and LPD for Qatar

Two offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) will be built for the Qatar Emiri Armed Forces by shipbuilder Fincantieri, as part of a wider programme of work worth in the region of €4 billion ($4.53 billion).

Announced last week, the contract will supply a total of seven surface vessels, of which four will be 100m long corvettes, one landing platform dock (LPD) as well as the two patrol vessels. Industrial support will be provided for a further 15 years after the programme delivery.
