MDA to upgrade Canadian CP-140 radar surveillance systems
MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) has received two contract amendments to provide software upgrades to the radar surveillance systems on Canada's CP-140 Aurora aircraft fleet. The contract amendments, announced on 27 April by MDA, have a combined value of $5.76 million and were awarded by the Canadian Department of National Defence.
The software upgrades by MDA will provide high resolution imaging capability to the aircraft's radar surveillance system. According to the company, this will enable users to detect, locate, and classify land and marine-based objects, such as vehicles and ships.
The CP-140 Aurora is Canada's intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. The fleet is used by the Royal Canadian Air Force for domestic surveillance of the country's maritime approaches, maritime and overland operations and search and rescue missions.
