Japan donating large patrol boats to KL
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe confirmed on 16 November that his country would donate two decommissioned Japan Coast Guard (JCG) patrol boats to Malaysia.
The second-hand patrol boats are believed to be 90m-long JCG vessels that will need to be refurbished first. However, no details have been released on which retired vessels they are.
The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), which will receive the vessels, is not well equipped in terms of larger vessels, especially those able to navigate in heavy seas.
