IMDEX Asia: Piracy shadow hangs over Southeast Asia, says expert
Piracy could have an adverse impact on the commercial business of Southeast Asia’s major economic hubs if the problem escalates, according to a leading expert on maritime crime.
Professor Geoffrey Till maintains that piracy in the region has not reverted to the levels of ten years ago, but warns that measures must be taken to prevent the problem spiralling.
He says: ‘Given the extent to which the region is becoming more and more the destination of global shipping, then the economic impact of uncontrolled piracy would be even worse than it was then. At the moment there are few signs
