IMDEX Asia 2019: Japan Coast Guard launches new large vessels

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in Japan launched a 6,500t patrol ship on 8 March. Destined for the Japan Coast Guard (JCG), it is a modified ship in the Shikishima class, with two previous vessels built by IHI entering service in 1992 and 2013 (pictured ).

The new ship, to be christened Reimei (PLH 33), is expected to be commissioned in FY2019. It was laid down on 7 June 2017. The value of the construction of this ship and an accompanying helicopter amounted to JPY30 billion ($270 million).

The vessel measures 150m long and it has a beam of 16.5m. As
