IDEX 2019: LCS lookalike design on the cards for China

17th February 2019 - 15:40 GMT | by Richard Thomas in Abu Dhabi

RSS

Chinese naval manufacturer CSSC is designing a light frigate-sized trimaran vessel which is strikingly similar in appearance to the US Navy’s Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).

It is not clear what customer the platform is being designed for, although it is likely that it would be for domestic consumption, with its presence at IDEX 2019 part of a wider demonstration of China’s ship design and building capabilities.

The proposed design has the platform, described as a multirole trimaran vessel, weighing around 3,000t and 136m in length. The design could accommodate 110 crew.

A maximum speed is listed at 30kts
