Gowind corvettes to include iXblue navigation technology
French shipbuilder Naval Group has picked iXblue to provide navigation systems for two Gowind corvettes.
The vessels, both destined for export to an undisclosed country, will each be fitted with Marins navigation systems and Netans data distribution and processing units, iXblue announced on 2 July.
This means the corvettes will ‘benefit from extremely reliable, efficient and secure navigational information, whatever the environment, even when GNSS [satellite] signals are unavailable, jammed or spoofed,’ said Benoît Kerouanton, director of iXblue's Navigation Division.
Its solutions, based on fibre-optic gyroscope technology, feature in programmes such as the FDI future frigate programme for the French Navy; RN Astute-class nuclear attack submarines and Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers; German Navy Bremen- and Brandenburg-class frigates; and the OPV 87 offshore patrol vessel of the Argentine Navy (ARA Bouchard — pictured).
