Gibraltar patrol boats to receive CGI mission system
Two new 19m-long fast patrol boats for the UK RN Gibraltar Squadron will be equipped with the CGI OpenSea 360 mission system.
CGI is providing the equipment for prime contractor Marine Specialised Technology (MST), which was awarded a £9.9 million ($12.6 million) deal by the UK MoD in July for vessel manufacture and platform support.
The scalable, open-architecture and paperless OpenSea 360 system uses MFDs and integrates platform systems, sensors, navigation and communications, the MoD noted in a 19 October announcement.
CGI OpenSea360 is already operational in UK fast boat programmes.
‘As the maritime environment becomes increasingly complex and congested it is vital for operators to have the right information in a format they can use in difficult conditions,’ said Neil Timms, senior VP for, UK space, defence and intelligence at CGI.
