First Kenyan Fisheries Department OPV launched
Western Marine Shipyard, a Bangladeshi shipbuilder headquartered at Chittagong, launched MV Doria on May 4.
The vessel is the first offshore patrol vessel (OPV) ordered by Kenya’s State Department of Fisheries, part of Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
The contract for the construction of MV Doria was signed in January 2014 between Kenya and Danish shipbuilder JGH Marine. Construction was subcontracted by JGH Marine to its partner Western Marine Shipyard, presumably to keep costs down.
