DSEI 2015: Turboprops better option for UK

While many are placing their bets on the Boeing P-8 Poseidon as the future UK maritime patrol aircraft (MPA), others are calling for a competition and offering up turboprop options for any potential requirement.

Both Airbus Defence and Space (DS) and Alenia Aermacchi have suggested that their aircraft, the C295 and the C-27J respectively, would be a good fit for the surveillance capability.

Airbus DS is keen for the UK to open up the opportunity to industry by holding an open competition rather than selecting the P-8 as a single source off-the-shelf option.
