Defexpo 2014: TKMS competes for Indian naval programmes

ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems is engaging in India on two submarine programmes – the Project P-75(I) diesel-electric acquisition and the Shishumar-class (Type 209/1500) upgrade.

A spokesman from TKMS told Shephard that its submarine manufacturing arm, HDW, received an RFP for the Shishumar upgrade at the end of 2013 and would be responding to the proposal by March.

‘This programme is different to those supporting the Peru Type 209s or other boats of this class because the Indian Navy has other requirements. It is not just an overhaul - they want to bring in new systems,’ he said.
