Defender ROV deliveries begin to USN under latest contract
VideoRay has begun shipments of its Defender ROV to the USN from its facility in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, under a recent $49 million contract.
‘The systems are being delivered with solutions from Greensea, Blueprint Subsea, Nortek and Eddyfi,’ the company confirmed.
Deliveries will be completed by the end of 2020, VideoRay added in a 1 October statement.
Defender ROV will be used by the USN for operations such as littoral MCM, port security and hull and pier inspection. USN EOD teams already train with Defender and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency employs the ROV in Project Blowfish to identify and neutralise underwater IEDs in US waterways.
According to Shephard Defence Insight, the ROV features seven vectored thrusters and an HD camera to provide clear imagery and video footage. The system can be customised to reach depths of 2km.
