BlueComm chosen by Australia’s DST
The Defence and Science Technology (DST) group within the Australian Department of Defence has selected Sonardyne’s BlueComm underwater communications system as part of its ongoing UUV programme.
BlueComm enables wireless transmission of high bandwidth tactical data over a potential range of hundreds of metres at up to 10MB per second.
Ioseba Tena, Global Business Manager – Defence at Sonardyne, said: ‘BlueComm is a game changer for underwater operations, enabling AUV/UUVs and unmanned and manned vessels to communicate without compromising their position.’
She added: ‘As we envision new concepts of operation which require interaction between different off-board assets subsea, the ability to share data covertly and securely cannot be underestimated.’
BlueComm modems are undetected by sonar listening devices which makes them suitable for use in covert operations where secure communications are key. Various configurations are available which enables it to operate in a range of environmental conditions including shallow waters.
