Azerbaijan Border Guard receives a boost with new OPV
Azerbaijan's coast guard (known as Sahil Mühafizəsinin), part of the country's Border Guard Service or Dövlət Sərhəd Xidmətinin (DSX), has launched its fifth locally built 62m Tufan class OPV.
The vessel (S-205) is expected to enter operational service shortly. The S-205 was inspected by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev at the Coast Guard's Shipbuilding Centre, near Turkan on 30 April 2018 prior to its launching on 10 May 2018.
The Tufan class OPVs are being constructed at the Coast Guard's Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Centre near Turkan using material packages supplied by Israel Shipyard Limited to its Saar 62 design.
