Navantia breeds talent in Australia
Four Australian naval design companies have begun work on a 3D digital model training course led by Navantia Australia, the company announced on 14 March.
The courses will be based around Navantia’s FORAN digital design software. The goal is to develop strong electricity, structural and outfitting capabilities for the design of complex naval vessels in Australia.
Designers and engineers from Australian companies ASC, Cornell Design and Invenio, will be trained in the use of FORAN digital design software. FORAN software is a tool used to create 3D models and digital twin or ship zero, used in design and build phases. Through the use of FORAN, Navantia Australia is able to reduce costs and improve productivity in the design and construction of vessels.
Donato Martinez, managing director, Navantia Australia, said: ‘The training we are undertaking is an important part of the transfer of design technology and tools to Australia as part of building local design capability in our role as design manager of the Hobart class.
‘The programme will provide the skills required for the future workforce to work on complex and highly-skilled naval projects. This training programme is a first for Navantia Australia and will involve both formal and workplace training components, representing a significant investment in developing the workforce capability.’
The training programme will run for six months.
