White Paper outlines Australian Army growth
Australia’s Defence White Paper released on 25 February offered insights into the planned development of ‘land forces that have the mobility, firepower, protection and situational awareness to deploy quickly to where they are needed, achieve their missions and return home safely.’
The document promised investment in combat vehicles, long-range fire support, amphibious capabilities and special forces. Phases 2 and 3 of Project Land 400 are already under way to select wheeled combat reconnaissance vehicles and tracked IFVs to replace the General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) ASLAV and BAE Systems M113AS4 respectively.
