US Army to improve Arctic mobility

Following the publication of its strategy paper 'Regaining Dominance in the Arctic', the US Army is pushing ahead with efforts to improve mobility. It is moving ahead with the Cold weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) project to address shortfalls in manoeuvre capability.

The US Army has down-selected two contenders for its new Cold weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) programme.

Variants of the BAE Systems Beowulf all-terrain vehicle (ATV) will compete against a modified Oshkosh Defense and ST Engineering Bronco 3 ATV as potential replacements for the existing Small Unit Support Vehicle (SUSV) operated by the US Army.

This effort is part of the drive to improve Arctic capabilities under the army’s Regaining Arctic Dominance strategy paper, released on 16 March 2021.
