US Army awards General Dynamics Land Systems S-MET development contract
The US Army has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems a $249 million contract on 15 July for the development of the Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport (S-MET), with work estimated to be completed by July 2025.
The programme aims to equip infantry battalions with an unmanned load-carrying platform that is able to operate in austere environments for extended periods. The S-MET will have a power generation capability for charging batteries and powering additional equipment.
The army plans to bring the system into service in Q2 of FY2021 and complete fielding of 624 S-METs by Q2 of FY2024.
