Peru wants reconditioned Strykers
The government of Peru has requested reconditioned Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicles from the US under a $668 million Foreign Military Sale. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that it was considering the request on 5 December.
The request is for 178 reconditioned Strykers, 178 M2 Flex .50 cal machine guns; and 178 Remote Weapon Stations. Drivers’ vision enhancement equipment, GPS navigation systems, testing tools equipment, spare parts, VIC-3 systems and M6 Smoke Grenade launchers are also included in the request, along with training, spare and repair parts.
The vehicles will form part of a wider modernisation programme of Peru’s armed forces that aims to build a multi-dimensional brigade by 2030, allowing the country to update its capabilities while further enhancing interoperability with the US and other partners.
The prime contractor for the programme is General Dynamics Land Systems.
