Ukroboronprom suggests T-72 tank upgrade
Ukroboronprom has suggested an upgrade of around 300 T-72 tanks currently in the Ukrainian Army reserve to improve the defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces, meet NATO standards, the company announced on 18 March.
The company is ready and willing to modernise the old T-72 tanks and upgrade them to the PT-91 Twardy standard, to meet NATO standards and boost capabilities.
Yurii Pashchenko, deputy director-general of operations, Ukroboronprom, said that these modernised tanks can solve crucial problems in the country's army. He said that modernised military equipment that meets international standards will help further strengthen the Ukrainian army.
Pashchenko said: 'Tank T-72 is not in service of Ukrainian Army: There are almost 300 of these tanks in Ukraine and we suggested to the Ministry of Defence to upgrade them up to tanks PT-91 - Polish main battle tanks - to meet NATO standards.'
