Third time lucky for US fighting vehicle?

The US Army has once again kick-started an initiative that aims to replace the service’s ageing Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

Contracts totalling $56 million have been handed out to industry this week to develop design concepts for the Future Fighting Vehicle (FFV).

Armoured vehicle heavyweights BAE Systems and General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) have both been awarded $28 million contracts from the US Army’s TACOM Lifecycle Management Command to explore several designs for FFV.

The contracts come on the heels of the 2014 cancellation of the Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV), a multi-billion dollar project that aimed to replace the Bradley. Both
