Taiwan to order M1A2 Abrams
Taiwan has decided to order 108 M1A2 Abrams tanks plus ammunition from the US. These MBTs will equip two armoured battalions in the northern sector of Taiwan, to replace some existing M60A3 TTS and CM11 tanks.
Minister of National Defense Yen Teh-fa told a legislative panel that Taiwan is interested in purchasing M1 tanks, something it has been mulling for many years. About $974.1 million will be spent on the MBTs, a training programme, equipment and five years’ support with spare parts.
This decision might also result in the cancellation of an M60A3 upgrade programme initiated in late 2017.
