South Korea crests the WAV
Evaluations of South Korea’s new 8x8 Wheeled Armoured Vehicle (WAV) have been successfully completed, according to an announcement by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) on 7 June.
The 20t-class vehicle, in development by Hyundai Rotem since late 2012, passed final qualification tests on 9 May. It has been given the nomenclature of K808.
The amphibious K808 is designed as a frontline armoured vehicle with high levels of mobility, this being important in South Korea’s mountainous terrain. A 420hp diesel engine and seven-speed transmission offer a top road speed of 100+km/h. The 8x8 platform measures 7.4m long, 2.7m wide and
