SOFEX 2012: German general warns of continued SOF need in Afghanistan

NATO success in Afghanistan will be measured by the ability of indigenous forces to provide security for their country, the head of Germany's special operations forces (SOF) has proclaimed.

Addressing the Middle-East Special Operations Commanders (MESOC) conference in Amman, Maj Gen Jörg Vollmer, commander of the Special Operations Division, described the necessity to keep SOF units in place beyond the proposed drawdown in 2014  in order to 'help our Afghan partners provide security for their country'.
