Smerch MLRS replacement coming
The production of Russia’s latest MLRS system dubbed Tornado-S is set to begin in 2017.
Yury Borisov, the Russian deputy defence minister, responsible for all new armament procurement programmes, revealed that this year the Tornado-S shall complete its government testing and evaluation programme.
He added that the Russian Land Forces are impatient to get the new system, which is intended to complement and gradually replace the existing Smerch MLRS.
It is understood that the procurement contract for the Tornado-S has been signed during the Armya-2016 defence exhibition held in early September in Kubinka near Moscow.
