Saab receives order for Arthur radar MLU prototype
Saab has received an order for a Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) prototype of its Arthur weapon-location radar system, the company announced on 8 April.
The order, which amounts to around $13.29 million, was awarded by the Norwegian Defence Logistic Organisation (NDLO) to Saab Technologies Norway. It includes an upgrade of the Arthur system's sensor to Saab's current production version, development of new command, control and communications functions, and integration in a new 10ft container with ISO corners for use on several vehicle types.
The Norwegian Army will use the M113F4 armoured tracked vehicle as the main carrier for the Arthur system. When it took the system into service in 1999, the army integrated Arthur onto a Hägglunds BV-206 tracked vehicle to support light infantry brigades.
Delivery of the upgrades will take place in 2017. The upgrade will improve detection range and accuracy, operational flexibility and mobility and protection, according to Saab.
Arthur is a weapon locating system that uses passive phased-array antenna technology. It is used by customers worldwide, including Sweden, the UK, the Czech Republic, South Korea and more.
