Romania requests HIMARS from US
The US State Department has made a determination approving a potential foreign military sale of High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and related support and equipment to Romania, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced on 18 August.
In a package worth $1.25 billion, Romania has requested 54 HIMARS launchers, 81 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) M31A1 unitary, 81 GMLRS M30A1 alternative warhead, 54 Army Tactical Missile Systems M57 unitary, 24 Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems, and a range of M1151A1 HMMWVs.
The package request also includes 54 M1084A1P2 HIMARS resupply vehicles, 54 M1095 MTV cargo trailer with RSV kit, and ten M1089A1P2 Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles wreckers, along with practice rockets, support equipment, communications equipment, sensors, spare and repair parts, and training and support equipment.
The Romanian government intends to use the equipment to modernise its armed forces and strengthen its homeland defences.
If the deal goes ahead, Lockheed Martin will be the prime contractor.
