Rheinmetall demos mobile HEL effector
New advances in high-energy laser (HEL) technology for air defence were displayed by Rheinmetall during a live demonstration at the Ochsenboden firing range on 24 October.
The demonstration included multi-target engagement of UAVs and generic Rocket, Artillery and Mortar (RAM) targets with mobile HEL effector technology demonstrators in scenarios including: Counter-RAM (C-RAM), C-UXO/C-IED, asymmetric and air defence.
A complete kill chain of three JT-240 UAVs was demonstrated with a Skyguard 3 sensor unit detecting and identifying the UAVs connected to a 30kW HEL laser weapon technology demonstrator consisting of three 10kW HEL laser effectors mounted on a MG10 gun turret.
