PT Pindad demonstrates Medium Tank
PT Pindad has conducted a live-firing demonstration of its latest Medium Tank (MT) at an Indonesian Army facility, the company announced on 27 August.
The MT has been jointly developed by PT Pindad of Indonesia and FNSS of Turkey. The MT is fitted with the CMI Defence’s Cockerill 3105 turret equipped with high-pressure 105mm Cockerill gun.
The tank has been designed as a standard main battle tank that has fire-power, accuracy and mobility tailored to suit the specific terrain and conditions encountered in Asian territories.
During the event, the tank was demonstrated in four different main firing scenarios. One of these scenarios involved successfully firing at a moving 4x4 armoured vehicle while the MT was itself driving at a speed of 20km/h.
Abraham Mose, CEO of PT Pindad, said: ‘We have experienced many challenges cooperating with two high-tech international companies that are FNSS and CMI Defence.
‘PT Pindad is ready for mass production of the MT starting in 2019 and we will enjoy transfer of technology that will enhance PT Pindad technical capabilities. We will start as well to promote this latest generation of LMT to export market in Asia and hopefully beyond.’
