Prototype AAVs to survive-up

Improvements to the survivability of the USMC Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAVP7A1) armoured personnel carriers are taking shape.

Designated as the AAV Survivability Upgrade Programme it is expected they will received upgrades and modifications like an external fuel tank, underbelly/sponson armour kit, spall liners, and blast attenuating seats.

A USMC spokesperson told Shephard that delivery of the first prototype in 2Q FY16, with full operational capability in 2020. They could remain in service out to 2035 when they will be replaced by the ACV 1.1 vehicles.
