US Army eyes more soldier protection contracts in 2021

US Army plans to equip its soldiers with next-generation lightweight protective equipment, as it attempts to increase warfighter survivability, mobility, modularity and lethality.

The US Army expects to award a series of contracts in 2021 under the Soldier Protection System (SPS) programme, as it aims to equip frontline soldiers with advanced personal protective equipment (PPE), 

Maj Melissa Elledge, Assistant Product Manager, Body Armor, Soldier Protective Equipment at the army's Program Executive Office Soldier, informed Shephard that the branch intends to issue multiple contracts for SPS components throughout FY2021.

She pointed out that the army is not wedded to specific suppliers and it aims ‘to pursue maximum competition for all systems and components and actively assesses new and emerging technologies that may increase the security and
