Portugal rolls out Glock 17 Gen5 for army

The Soldier Combat Systems (SCS) programme for the Portuguese Army passed another milestone in early June, with delivery of Glock 17 Gen5 9mm pistols to the 2nd Lancers Regiment (RL2). 

Instructors will take part in a theoretical and practical course this month to learn how to use the new handgun. After that they will be responsible for training troops, as the Portuguese Army aims to improve soldier lethality.

Besides RL2, the army rolled out the Glock 17 to its Intervention Brigade (BrigInt) in April.

This weapon will replace the Walther P38 pistol, which has been in service with the Portuguese
