Is Russia eyeing Terminator 2 procurement?
The Central Military District of the Russian Ground Forces announced on 9 February that it has ‘finalised the first stage of experimental exploitation’ of the BMPT fire support combat vehicle, also known as Terminator.
This announcement followed the apparent delivery in 2020 of eight Terminator 2 variants (BMPT-72, based on the T-72 MBT design) for use in tests during military exercises involving the 90th Guards Tank Division, as noted at the time by official Russian MoD newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.
Exercises will focus on how the vehicle would operate in the field alongside the T-90M and BMP-2M IFV.
