India lodges light tactical vehicle order with Mahindra

Via a 'Make in India' contract, the Indian Army is beefing up protection levels for its troops using light vehicles.

India’s MoD placed an order for 1,300 Armoured Light Specialist Vehicles (ALSV) from Mahindra Defence, it was announced on 22 March.

Confirmation of the sale of these 4x4 vehicles also came via a Mahindra regulatory filing. The contract to supply the Indian Army is worth INR10.56 billion ($146.8 million), and deliveries by Mahindra Emirates Vehicle Armouring should be fulfilled within four years.

‘The light specialist vehicle is a modern fighting vehicle and will be authorised to various fighting units for carriage of medium machine guns, automatic grenade launchers as well as antitank guided missiles,' the MoD stated.
