Poland requests HIMARS from US
The US State Department has made a determination approving a potential foreign military sale of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) to Poland, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced on 28 November.
In a package worth $250 million, Poland has requested 16 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) M31A1 unitary, nine GMLRS M30A1 alternative warheads and 61 Army Tactical Missile Systems M57 unitary.
The package request also includes eight universal position navigation units, 34 low cost reduced range practice rockets, 1,642 guidance and control section assemblies for GMLRS, missile common test sets and devices, testing precision, lightweight GPS receivers, and training and support equipment.
The Polish government intends to use the equipment to modernise its armed forces and strengthen its homeland defences.
If the deal goes ahead, Lockheed Martin will be the prime contractor.
