PGZ, DICON sign agreement on Beryl M762
Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) has signed a memorandum with Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) on establishing rules and conditions for the three-stage transfer of technology for the production of Beryl M762 carbines in Nigeria, the company announced on 26 March.
Beryl M762 is the modified carbine model 96C in use with the Polish armed forces. The only difference is the ammunition - the M762 version uses 7.62mm x 39 cartridges, while in Poland 5.56mm x 45 ammunition is used.
The Nigerian Army received the first batch of 1000 Polish Beryl M762 with repair kits in February 2015 under an order placed in 2014.
A further contract included the sale of 500 Beryl M762 for 7.62mm x 39 cartridges and ten compact carbine Mini Beryl M556s for 5.56mm x 45 ammunition, which were delivered at the end of June 2015. The PGZ Group companies also delivered training systems dedicated to Beryl carbines.
Jakub Skiba, president of the managing board of PGZ, said: ‘The Abuja armed forces have been using Beryl M762 carbines for several years now and the very good reputation of these carbines was one of the main reasons why our Nigerian partners chose them as products which could become essential equipment for their soldiers.’
DICON is a state-owned Nigerian company, subordinated to the Nigerian armed forces. The company deals in the production of defence equipment and civil market products, with special emphasis on firearms and munitions.
