Peru IFV has priority over MBTs
A lot has been made about plans by the Peruvian Army to upgrade its main battle tanks (MBTs) but the actual priority is infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).
Military sources have suggested that Peru intends to push ahead with the procurement of both wheeled and tracked IFVs as soon as possible under the army’s Ugarte modernisation programme and that an MBT acquisition is not a priority.
Contenders for an IFV programme are thought to include the Marder, BTR-80A, Pandur and NZ LAV but Peru may choose a mix of new and existing vehicles such as the YPR-765, BMP-1 and
