Orbital logs US Army ammo orders
Orbital ATK has been awarded orders worth $210 million for the production of small calibre ammunition for the US Army, the company announced on 3 May.
The orders, for .50 calibre, 5.56mm and 7.62mm ammunition, fall under Orbital's contract to produce small calibre ammunition for the army at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.
Kent Holiday, vice president and general manager of small caliber systems division, defense systems group, Orbital ATK, said: 'This latest order continues a long history of supplying only the best ammunition to our warfighters. Every round is produced with the highest quality because we know that those defending freedom depend upon the good work of our employees.'
Orbital has been working with the US Army to upgrade the plant during the last few months, investing in high-volume technology to improve cost and production efficiency.
