AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR approved for early fielding
Northrop Grumman’s AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) system has been approved for initial operational capability (IOC) by the US Marine Corps, the company announced on 28 February.
IOC indicates that a system is ready for operational deployment and is achieved when production systems, spares, logistic support items and documentation have been tested and validated through a rigorous process.
The approval follows the delivery of the final Lot 1 and Lot 2 low rate initial production (LRIP) G/ATOR system to the marine corps. The first two systems will be deployed to Marine Air Control Squadrons 1 and 2 for operational use.
Northrop Grumman has delivered six G/ATOR systems with Gallium Arsenide technology in Lots 1 and 2. Starting with Lot 3 deliveries and including all full rate production systems, G/ATOR will incorporate high power, high efficiency Gallium Nitride antenna technology that will enhance operational capabilities.
Northrop Grumman will also provide logistics support for G/ATOR systems under a separate contract.
