New USMC firefighting vehicle approaches

The US Marine Corp will get improved aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) capabilities once its new vehicle enters service.

Known as the P-19R, the 6x6 ARFF vehicles are expected to enter full rate production (FRP) in mid-2016.

Since April 2015 the vehicle has been in a production and deployment phase where it has been undergoing testing and evaluation that Oshkosh Defense, which is building the vehicles, has been putting the vehicle through.

Oshkosh was awarded the P-19R contract in May 2013 and completed development testing and evaluation and readiness reviews to get to Milestone C approval and into low rate
