MSPO 2017: Romania pursues ambitious modernisation
In early August the Romanian Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) took a broad decision to begin large-scale redevelopment of the country’s armed forces, boosting funding by €9.8 billion ($11.69 billion).
To support this ambitious undertaking, the country’s top defence body plans to increase defence expenditure next year to 2% of GDP, an increase of €1.07 billion.
A significant proportion of the planned investment will be spent buying new hardware for the Romanian Land Forces.
As defence minister Adrian Tutuianu noted, the defence acquisition programmes will be carried out from 2017 to 2026 and wherever possible local defence industry
