MBDA's Milan ER completes validation firings
MBDA has completed validation of series production of the Milan ER system, clearing the way for production work to be finalised and first unit deliveries to commence in spring of 2015.
A firing campaign confirmed the performance capabilities of the firing post, of the missile as well as of the warhead, with four successful firings achieved against fixed and moving targets.
MBDA completed the firing campaign to validate the series production of the Milan ER, as jointly scheduled with export customers. Four totally successful firings against fixed and moving targets confirmed the performance capabilities of the firing post, of the missile as well as of the warhead.
The Milan ER weapon system, which achieved qualification in the first half of 2014, has been selected by three export customers.
The system has been developed under a self-funded programme by MBDA to expand on the operational characteristics of the MILAN family of missiles, currently in use with forty customers worldwide. The system features latest-generation technologies with an extended range, a highly powerful warhead and a fully digital firing post.
Antoine Bouvier, CEO, MBDA, said: ‘The Milan ER missile is of particular importance to us, owing to the long performance lineage it clearly embodies, but also because this very attractive system allows MBDA to maintain a business and technical presence in a great number of countries, all of which are prospective customers for higher-end products.’
