Lockheed Martin maintains THAAD for UAE
Lockheed Martin Space will maintain and sustain two Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) batteries it previously supplied to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), under a new $254.71 million sole-source FMS contract from the US Missile Defense Agency.
The UAE became the first international partner to procure THAAD with a contract awarded in December 2011. Saudi Arabia has also procured the missile defence system.
Work on the latest contract will be carried out at six US locations for completion by mid-January 2026.
Lockheed Martin will provide a range of services, such as logistics management, training, missile and ground systems repair and other engineering services.
Each THAAD system comprises five major components: interceptors, launchers, a radar, a fire control unit and support equipment.
