Lockheed Martin receives GMLRS order
The US Army has awarded a $227 million contract to Lockheed Martin for Lot 10 production of the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) unitary rocket, and the first order of the GMLRS Alternative Warhead production, the company announced on 15 September.
Stock for foreign military sales of GMLRS Unitary rockets to the UAE and Bahrain are included in the contract.
GMLRS is designed for fast deployment precision strike effects beyond the reach of most conventional weapons. The Alternative Warhead has been developed to engage the same target set and achieve the same area-effects requirement as the old MLRS submunition warheads, but without the lingering danger of unexploded ordnance.
GMLRS rocket are packaged in an MLRS launch pod and fired from the Lockheed Martin HIMARS or M270 family of launchers.
Ken Musculus, vice president of tactical missiles, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said: ‘GMLRS is a combat proven precision-strike system. We are confident that the new GMLRS alternative warhead will also provide reliable, highly accurate capability for our domestic and international customers.’
