Lightweight armoured products launched by DuPont

Dupont has launched its new range of lightweight Tensylon polyethylene armour at this year’s IDEX.

The company is offering both monolithic and hybrid products that can be easily moulded into required shapes and provides the required rigidity for helmets, panels, doors and seating. A spokesman from DuPont said that this is unlike other polyethylene products, which tend to sag.

Tensylon armour offers vehicle and personal protection from high velocity rounds. It experiences reduced back-face deformation compared to other armour and can be combined with DuPont’s Kevlar products to create hybrid armour plates. Polyethylene is the most common form of plastic
