Russian unit receives BTR-82A APCs
A marine unit of the Russian military stationed in Kamchatka has received more than 30 BTR-82A armoured personnel carriers (APC), the Russian Ministry of Defence announced on 29 May.
The wheeled vehicles will replace the previous generation BTR-80s and armoured fighting vehicles. The BTR-82A is a modernised and modified version of the BTR-80 equipped with a modernised fire suppression system.
The vehicle offers improved firepower, agility and protection. It is armed with a two-axis stabilised 30mm 2A72 cannon and a 7.62mm PKTM co-axial machine gun.
